Alcatel Unleash Modular A5 And More At MWC

Budget smartphone vendor Alcatel has shown off its 2017 range at the on-going Mobile World Congress.

The cornerstone of the range comes with the A5 LED, which boasts a unique LED-laden back cover that can be customized.

It’s the kind of unique feature that has to be seen to be believed. What’s more, if it’s not to your liking you can always just swap it out for a battery-pack or speaker cover.

Beyond that, the 5.2-inch handset runs on a 1.4 GHz octa-core MediaTek processor and a 2GBs of RAM. It’s also packing a 13MP rear camera.

“With the A5 LED, Alcatel is delivering new fun features, like light-up notifications and unique LED cover patterns and themes you create yourself, as well as an enhanced multimedia experience and more ways to take and share selfies, ideal for people who value having fun and letting their personality shine. ” said William Dowie, Portfolio Management Director, Alcatel.

The A5 LED is set to carry an RRP of $299 and arrive in the local market in May.

The somewhat-modular handset comes accompanied by the cheaper U5, A3 and PLUS 12 tablet.

The U5 packs together a 1.1GHz Quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM with a 5-inch HD display and fingerprint sensor.

“At Alcatel, we know that a smartphone is a not a luxury but a necessity in our modern, hyper-connected world,” said William Dowie, Portfolio Management Director, Alcatel.

“Combining ease of use and affordability, the U5 is the perfect choice for the first-time smartphone buyer who wants a snappy smartphone with some really fun camera experiences included.”

It’ll reach Australian shores in May for an RRP of $150 AUD.

Meanwhile, the A3 raises that proposition to a 1.25GHz processor and 1.5GBs of RAM.

“Our customers have told us that taking and sharing photos, gaming, and streaming video are essential elements of a fun and social smartphone lifestyle. The A3 delivers all this and more, along with stunning good looks and a budget-friendly price,” said William Dowie, Portfolio Management Director, Alcatel.

It’ll retail for $199 in June.

Last but not least, the Plus 12 is said to be “one of the lightest 12-inch 2-in-1s on the market, weighing in at just 990 grams.”

“As a leading device manufacturer for connected tablets, we are convinced that productive devices will be more and more connected to cellular networks. Alcatel has developed the PLUS range, a series of high-performing connected Windows 10 2-in-1s with 4G LTE inside, so you’ll always be connected and productive wherever you go. PLUS 12 is the latest addition to the PLUS family. With a larger screen, it delivers a great user experience. It’s also super lightweight and looks fantastic,” said Vittorio Di Mauro, Senior-Vice President at Alcatel.

“With the PLUS 12, Alcatel has created the perfect office on the go.”

The PLUS 12 will retail for $649 in June.
