Slick New Pioneer HD Surround Sound Kit For Blu-ray

By Manisha Kanetkar | Thursday | 28/02/2008

The new 5.1 compact speaker kit from Pioneer is designed specifically to partner the playback of high definition Blu-ray discs, but also allows you to dock your iPod and claims to offer realistic 3-dimensional sound.

The speaker package (HTP-LX70) takes its style cues from the Pioneer flat-panel plasma range. Each speaker incorporates what Pioneer calls the "dodecahedron concept" to deliver omni-directional or 3-D sound.

With HDMI connectivity, the kit can deal with HD audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD often found on Blu-ray movies. Pioneer says the HTP-LX70 will also swiftly pass on the 1080p / 24 video on to your flat screen TV HDMI with 1080p scaling and a 400W digital power amplifier. The speakers also feature an iPod input to allow you to dock your iPod.

While the speaker package comprises of compact satellite speakers, Pioneer says they can deliver a fair bit of oomph for their size. Additional room acoustic calibration technology lets listeners optimise the speakers to their room.

Controlling the system is via the included LCD touch-screen remote control. The remote can also be used to control other Pioneer HDMI-control enabled gear, such as the new LX plasma TVs or the LX70A Blu-ray player.

RRP: HTP-LX70 $2,999
