Apple has released Mac OS X 10.5.5 to fix nearly 70 bugs and other vulnerabilities, including several in the services that synchronize Macs with other Macs, iPhones and
Palm PDAs.
The security portion of the update includes patched bugs in the operating system's font mechanism, Finder, image processor, kernel, log-in process, system configuration utility and Time Machine backup application, according to reports.
Some of the most notable fixes were two that plugged a serious hole in Apple's implementation of the Domain Name System (DNS).
The flaws patched in this release affect only 10.5.x (Leopard) versions of OS X, but updates also are available for 10.4.x (Tiger) Mac systems.
