Mass Market Retailers Love Denon But Not In Australia

By David Richards | Monday | 31/03/2008

Audio Products Australia the distributor of the Denon brand in Australia seems to be denying themselves sales by refusing to supply mass market resellers like Harvey Norman and JB Hi Fi. Instead the Company is sticking to the specialist channel which is in decline.

In the US Denon is sold via the likes of mass market retailers like Best Buy and Circuit City. This has resulted in the Denon brand A/V surround receiver being ranked No. 1 in sales dollars for the month of February in the U.S. with more than a 23% share of the surround receiver market according to the NPD Group's Retail Tracking Service data. This is the first time the Denon A/V surround receiver has earned the leading position in the US market regardless of sales channels.

"Market- share rankings reflect the voice of the customer," said President and Chief Operating Officer of D&M Holdings Victor J. Pacor. "Denon receivers are in high demand as customers increasingly pursue great sound and visual quality. This data point is particularly noteworthy since our Denon receivers command an average selling price that is much higher than that of the industry. This underscores 'flight to quality' as a consumer trend that continues to gain momentum."
A big success story for Denon has been the S302 home theatre kit which sell in Australia for sub $3,000.
