"Sleek Harman/Kardon Desktop Speakers"

By Branko Miletic | Published:26/05/2008

Are those Harman/Kardon Soundsticks II in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? Ok, maybe that is the wrong analogy as these speakers will not actually fit into a pocket - not even a really big one.

In fact, if we want to play with analogies, think primitive creatures of the ocean as these speakers look more like a prehistoric jellyfish with the subwoofer unit and the little tentacles in the form of wires and satellite speakers. And the blue light makes these speakers also look like a bluebottle, but I am unsure whether the designers had that maritime intention in mind.

But acoustically, well, they are a touch ordinary. Although the HK speakers serve up very clear treble, strong bass, and overall crisp and clean sound and can be pumped up to be extremely loud - whether playing Net radio, CDs or PC music, the sound is quite good but at the same time is not something to write home about either.

In terms of specs that are available, the frequency range is 44Hz ? 20 kHz; amplifier output power is 20 Wrms for the subwoofer and 10 Wrms per channel for the satellite speakers and the entire connected unit weighs just under 4 kgs.
