New HD TiVo Has 3G iPhone and iPod Link

By David Richards | Tuesday | 01/07/2008

Seven Media have rolled out a new HD TiVo service that allows free to air TV programs to be transferred to the new Apple 3G iPhone or an iPod.

At the offical launch of the new HD Tivo service by the Seven Network Mark Hughes the General Manager of Hybrid Television Services for the Seven Network said that one of the big benefits of the new $699 HD TiVo DPVR offering was the ability to overnight record "favourite" programs and then transfer it to an iPod or iPhone.

"The iPod link from the TiVo will allow consumers who travel to watch programs on their iPod either on the train or when flying" Hughes said.

As we see it this is a massive advantage over the Foxtel PVR which since launch has restricted consumers from being able to copy content to either a portable device or an external storage device.
The new TiVo only has 160Gb of storage however the inclusion of an external storage capability will allow users to transfer content to another external device.

Another advantage is that the new unit has two USB ports.

For those who want to expand the 160GB hard drive upgrading the TiVo unit is fairly easy according to Yahoo Tech.
They say that replacing its hard drive is nearly identical to replacing a computer's hard drive. And because an upgrade kit's hard drive comes pre-loaded with TiVo's software, everything works as soon as you plug TiVo back in.

Budget yourself about a half hour for this one and don't hesitate to try the installation yourself. You'll love the extra storage space.
After you've removed TiVo's cover, exposing its internal organs, identify the parts inside. You need to detach everything from the old hard drive so that you can replace it with the new one.
