| David Jones Celebrates Early Xmas With Record Profits

There certainly isn?t any other store like David Jones, with the retailer chalking up another record half year result, with a Net Profit after Tax of $AUD89 million, up from $AUD71.1 million last year- a rise of over 25 per cent.

This result comes after a relatively strong Christmas and holiday season, although does not include the any of the expected impact of recent interest rate rises. David Jones chief executive Mark McInnes said the company has "... utilised the strong economic climate over the past 18 months to put in place measures to ensure we are well prepared to address the expected slowdown in consumer spending in 2H08 and beyond".
