Samsungs new smartphone, called Omnia, looks similar to the iPhone, has a wide screen for viewing video and browsing the internet. It also comes with a 5 megapixel camera and runs Microsoft Windows Mobile software.

According to reports, the Korean tech giant will launch the Omnia next week, on June 17 at a trade fair in Singapore and will go on sale in Asia that week and in Europe later in July.

Technically speaking, The Samsung i900 Omnia comes with Windows Mobile 6.1 operating systems and 7.2 HSDPA capabilities.
It also features a 5MP camera with smile detection and geo-tagging features.

The phone supports quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE capabilities. The large 3.2 inch QVGA display presents a resolution of 400 x 240 pixels

The phone uses Samsung's TouchWiz user interface and will be available in versions of 8 GB and 16 GB.

Samsung's announcement, on the same day as the iPhone release shows how seriously rival handset makers are treating Apple.
According to Gartner, globally, Apple has sold more than five million iPhones so far and Gartner has put its share of the world market at about five per cent.
