According to figures released by DisplaySearch and WitsView, large-size panel prices have tumbled this July. Monitor panel prices have dropped US$8-12, notebook panel prices fell US$3-5, and LCD TV prices dropped as much as US$15.
But panel makers say they do not take the price drops to "necessarily mean that the market will remain in the doldrums for the rest of the year", according to the report.
And the report said the panel makers "see the price drop as a possible stimulation to boost demand in the end market".
Some panel makers claim they are already seeing a turnaround in demand in July, and they believe prices will "stabilise in August, and stand a chance of rising in September, driven by back to school demand", the report said.
