According to the Spanish telco Telefonica, May will be the month when Apple will finally unveil its iPhone to the Europeans and reports from Singapore state that the iPhone will be launched there by SingTel this September, but in a carbon copy of Apple's own PR strategy, SingTel would neither confirm nor deny this date.
The current iPhone operates only on the 2.5G network, which has much slower data speeds than 3G, although nearly all Australian carriers support both networks simultaneously, except for 3 which supports 3G only.
The technology news website Wired has reported that Apple has ordered 10 million 3G handsets, although this figure was based on an anonymous source.
And Vodafone weighed into the debate by noting it expected the Australian iPhone release to be based on a 3G model.
The scheduled Australian iPhone release is rumoured for 2008, possibly in June or July, but true to form, Apple has neither confirmed nor denied if this will involve the new 3G model.
