Blu-Ray Prices Increase Except At Bing Lee

By Branko Miletic | Monday | 07/04/2008

In a move that seems to defy conventional wisdom- that the price of technology decreases over time, the retail price of Blu-ray players has actually gone up around 5 per cent in Australia over the past month according to several reports.

Now that it has buried HD DVD, the triumphant Blu-ray manufacturers seem to be pushing up player prices as it becomes apparent that it is the only high definition disc format left in the marketplace.

However the Blu-ray player manufacturers vehemently deny increasing the recommended retail price on their products, blaming the five per cent increase on the major retailers, as it is the individual retailers that generally set pricing on their products.

However according to a spokesman for retailer Bing Lee, the prices of Blu-ray players at their stores have remained stable and in fact says the spokesman, "we think soon they will start coming down again."
