It is true that the value of any product aimed at the luxury market is rarely determined by the cost of its raw materials and fabrication, but rather by its perceived exclusivity.
And according to
Apple CEO Steve Jobs, it's all about the quality. "We can't ship junk. There are thresholds we can't cross because of who we are. The difference is, we don't offer stripped-down, lousy products", Jobs was quoted as saying.
OK, but then how does
Apple explain this: For $1000, owners of the iPhone 3G can now download what has been called by one blogger as "a seemingly useless application called I Am Rich." After purchasing the application, iPhone owners end up with a rather scary red dot on the iPhone ? which basically does nothing- and is apparently designed to remind them of their current wealth status.
