Adobe Reputation On The Line As It Gets Big & Fat

By David Richards | Tuesday | 29/04/2008

OPINION: One has to seriously question as to whether Adobe has caught the Microsoft disease with massive updates for their Creative Suite and Adobe Acrobat software. These updates which have been more than a gigabyte since the product was launched are loved by ISP’s as they get to charge business and consumers additional download fees.

During the past few months we have had constant problems with both Adobe Acrobat and their Creative Suite software with Adobe demanding that the software has to be authenticated time and time again. To date we have registered Creative Suite 3 Design Premium 12 times and each time it is re opened we are asked to re register the software. When we do the registration is authenticated.

Another major problem is their flaky Adobe Fireworks software. Developed by Macromedia a Company that was acquired in 2005 by Adobe in an effort to bolster their position in the web development market the software is used to manage the processing of images online.

During the past few months we have constantly had to close systems down as it freezes when loading an image. Yet when one goes to Photoshop to load the same image it loads instantly.
Another problem is the eraser tool which constantly dithers as one tries to remove sections of an image. This problem is particularly bad when one tries to work on a small image area.

During the past few years Adobe has moved to be a major player in the graphic design, web and document management markets. In fact they have very little competition after the Company successfully took out their arch competitor Quark in the graphic design market.
