Philips Invents Digital Undies

By Branko Miletic | Thursday | 05/06/2008

Forget about consumer electronics and other digital items, the boffins over at Philips have come up with the next ?must have? item- digital underwear to monitor users heart and health status.

Known as "smartpants", the company says they have been developed to monitor the blood pressure of male wearers using electrodes in the waistband that detect blood flow speed in the arteries.

The data is sent to a wearable clip-on monitor, which is then downloaded to computer for more in-depth analysis.
The underpants are just one part of a four-year project by Philips to incorporate health monitoring systems into clothes, bedding and home appliances.

Sadly though this technology cannot be applied to women's underwear, as the sensor cannot be fitted into the thinner waist bands.
