Toshiba Ramps Up LCD Production

By Branko Miletic | Monday | 05/05/2008

According to digitimes.com, Compal Electronics has received orders to manufacture LCD TVs for Toshiba, which should boost the Taiwan-based maker's total LCD TV shipments for 2008 to 1.8 million units.

The report said Compal will manufacture 30- and 40-inch LCD TVs for Toshiba, which has been active in diversifying further into LCD TV sales.

In the past Compal combined with Hitachi, but LCD TV shipments to that client remained low, reaching only 180,000 units in 2007.

Compal has also announced a strategic alliance with Syntax-Brillian, in which the maker will immediately begin manufacturing an initial order of 300,000 Olevia LCD HDTVs.
