Amazon has launched its all-new Kindle Scribe range in Australia, pitching the device as a distraction-free alternative to read, write and organise ideas without the constant interruptions of connected devices.

The launch comes as new Amazon-commissioned research claims many Australians are struggling to turn ambition into action.

According to the study, 76% of Australians have set personal or professional goals, but 37% say they have made little to no meaningful progress over the past year.

Amazon says digital distraction is a major factor, with 58% of goal-setters saying constant connectivity negatively affects their ability to focus or think deeply.

The figure rises to 72% among Australians aged 18 to 34. The research also found 39% of Australians are interrupted by a digital distraction within 30 minutes of starting a task on a typical working day.

The new Kindle Scribe devices combine Kindle’s eBook ecosystem with a digital notebook, allowing users to read, annotate, journal, sketch and capture handwritten notes. Amazon says handwritten text is fully searchable, while notes can be organised into folders and notebooks.

The range includes the new Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, which adds a soft-tone colour display aimed at visual planners, creatives and users who want a more expressive writing and sketching experience.

All models come with a Premium Pen that magnetically attaches to the device and does not require charging.

Jacqui Corbett, Country Manager and Head of Amazon Devices ANZ, said the company’s research showed Australians were losing ideas because they could not capture them quickly enough.

“Kindle Scribe Colorsoft gives people a distraction-free space to capture ideas as they occur, organise thinking, and make meaningful progress towards the goals that matter most,” Corbett said.

Amazon has also partnered with spiritual coach and content creator Allira Potter to promote the new devices, with Potter describing the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft as a tool for “brain dumps” and slowing down without digital noise.

The Kindle Scribe range is available now at Amazon Australia. Kindle Scribe starts at $849 for 32GB and $949 for 64GB, Kindle Scribe Colorsoft starts at $999 for 32GB and $1,099 for 64GB, while Kindle Scribe without front light is priced at $699.
