LCD Prices Stabilise After Big Falls

By Branko Miletic | Sunday | 21/09/2008

According to digitimes.com, panel shipments for TV and IT applications are expected to increase and unit prices will begin to stabilize from late September and remain steady until at least October.

The analysis notes that system makers and brand vendors are filling inventory in order to prepare for the Christmas/holiday season, which is why shipments of large-size panels have increased over the past 6 weeks, driven by demand for TV panels and LCD monitors.

According to reports, panel prices have dropped sharply since the middle of the year?in fact by over 35% for LCD monitors, 25% for notebook panels and up to 20% for TV panels.

And since the price of some panels dropped nearly to cost, panel makers not only reduced production, but are also cut down on taking orders in order to stabilize prices.

But now with shipments increasing say reports, panel makers may well start taking more orders although the outlook after the holiday season due to the general weakness of the economy is deemed as being uncertain.
