New SlotMusic Format Announced

A takeover target by Samsung SanDisk has announced a new physical music format called ?SlotMusic? which is designed to replace CDs and DVDs

The new format will allow content creators to place albums on microSD memory cards and among the Companies supporting the concept are EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and Warner.

A key benefit of the new format is that the cards,can be played on all PCs, portable music devices handsets, and smartphones equipped with microSD card readers. The cards will also be sold with a tiny USB sleeve which will allow users to connect  to PCs that lack a microSD reader. The music itself will be distributed as 320kbps DRM-free MP3 tracks.

In addition to audio albums, the slotmusic cards will sport liner notes and album art. The new format will Initially be available in the USA and via online services. SanDisk claim that they are confident that they will have a range of Albums available by Xmas. SanDisk PR Company Upstream claimed were not aware of the launch or when it would be available in Australia.

The companies hope that the new format will appeal to users who wish to listen to music on their handsets without requiring an internet connection or pre-loading from a computer.
