JB Hi Fi Never Offered TiVo Media Claims Wrong

By David Richards | Wednesday | 02/07/2008

Claims that retailers in particular JB Hi Fi have knocked back distribution of the new TiVo are rubbish a senior Channel Seven executive has told ChannelNews. They also said that no other retailers other than Harvey Norman had been offered the new $699 TiVo unit which goes on sale at Harvey Norman on the 29th of July exclusively for 1 month only.

Reports in the Australian Financial Review News Ltd publications and Melbourne based online site Business spectator have been described as utter "rubbish.

Earlier today Neil Shoebridge in the Financial Review claimed that JB Hi-Fi Ltd is refusing to stock the US digital recorder. However in an interview with ChannelNews JB Hi Fi Chief executive Richard Uechtritz admitted that his Company was never offered the Tivo unit to sell in the first place.

"We are talking to them and we could be selling it in the future" he said.

When asked outright as to whether Seven Media executives had offered the TiVo unit to JB Hi Fi to sell   Uechtritz said "No".
"We believe that the exclusive period with Harvey Norman is only one month and after that we will consider it" he said.
The TiVo unit which at this stage records free to air TV via a brand new easy to use interface will be available for sale in Harvey Norman and Domayne retail stores for $699, with no monthly subscription fee.

Seven aims to sell between 50,000 and 100,000 recorders over five years with new multi channels being added to the dev ice later this year.
