Foxtel Goes Live With New HD Service

Foxtel is set to go head to head with TIVO with the pay TV operator formally announcing that their HD+ service will go live on Sunday, June 22 and that more than 15,000 subscribers have already upgraded to their new service.

To celebrate the official launch of the new service, Sunday's World Cup Qualifier between Australia and China will be broadcast in High Definition for the first time.


The pay TV operator who could be forced to cut charges because of a free TIVO service due to be launched soon has also  rolled out a new print, radio and online marketing campaign, titled "Wonders will never cease" commencing Sunday, June 22.


Foxtel who are years behind US and UK pay TV operators in delivering a HD service despite having a total monopoly is now trying to lay claim to claims that the launch of Foxtel HD+ as the next great milestone in Australian television history.
Foxtel Chief Executive and Managing Director Kim Williams said: "The launch of Foxtel HD+, and the iQ2 which powers it, is a significant event for Australian television".


He added "We've already seen extremely strong take up of the new service with more than 15,000 of our subscribers upgrading to the new service since it was made available to them in the past few weeks."
