The Legend, which replaces the Hero (currently sold via mass retailers including Harvey Norman), looks very similar to the Apple iPhone with an upscaled, unibody aluminium shell much like a MacBook Pro. It also uses black plastic over the antenna section much like the first-generation iPhone.
The HTC Legend, which runs the latest Android software called Eclair, is made from a single block of aluminium and has a very bright and clear 3.2 inch AMOLED (ultra-bright LED) display.
Despite its body being engineered from a single piece of aluminium, the Legend has a removable battery which slides out from a compartment at the bottom of the phone. The back of the battery casing also contains the phone's antenna so that its metal body does not hinder signal strength.
The new Sense interface upgrade includes a new view called Leap, which is like a zoomed-out version of the phone's home screens. With a pinch-to-zoom gesture, the view backs out and shows seven thumbnails, one for each home screen.
Other features include a BLUR interface, which can be found on the new Motorola smartphone shortly to be released in Australia via Telstra.
HTC has also incorporated a new application and widget into Sense, which are based on the user's social networking activity. Called Friend Stream, the application pulls updates from Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and similar sites, displaying them in a single feed.
The new Sense has its own newsreader app and widget.
The Legrand has been given an upgrade on the inside to a 600MHz processor and now uses a 3.2-inch AMOLED display screen, which will replace the earlier LCD screen.
