Nokia Debuts Handsets For 2010

By Mendelson Tiu | Wednesday | 16/12/2009

Nokia has unveiled its new range of handsets that will be coming to Australia early next year. The N900, N97 Mini, and X6 were showcased at a function conducted by the company yesterday.

First demonstrated to the SmartHouse Team was the Nokia N900, a mobile phone running on Linux-based Maemo operating system. The handset sports a 3.5-inch screen, has 32GB of storage, and multiple connectivity options.

The unit also comes with a web browser based on Mozilla technology, allowing users to watch Flash videos, use drop down menus, and view their favourite websites. The unit also has a multitasking function that allows a user to surf the net, chat with friends, and listen to music. Other features include a five megapixel camera with dual LED Flash, and access to Ovi services.

Another handset that was featured during the event was the Nokia N97 mini, a small and more compact model that features a tilting 3.2-inch touch display, QWERTY keyboard and fully customisable home screen with live widgets. According to Nokia, the N97 mini is the first mobile to feature Ovi lifecasting, an application developed with Facebook that enables people to publish their location and status updates directly to their Facebook account from the home screen.

The Nokia N97 mini is compatible with Ovi services, providing quick and easy access to apps, music, maps, games and more. Also preloaded on the mobile are Lonely Planet guides for over 1,000 cities worldwide, Ovi Maps with integrated compass and A-GPS receiver, voice guided car navigation and pedestrian turn-by-turn guidance.

Also on show was the Nokia X6, a multimedia phone that provides quick access to the Nokia Music Store and up to 35 hours music playback. It comes with a five megapixel camera and dual LED flash, quick access to media sharing websites, as well as a 16:9 wide screen optimised for viewing photos, watching videos and web browsing. The mobile comes with three Ovi games to keep you entertained - Spore by EA, Asphalt4 and DJ Mix Tour by Gameloft.

Pricing and availability of these units will be announced at a later date.
