Telstra Puts Another Nail In Airlines Coffin

By Branko Miletic | Thursday | 05/06/2008

If high global oil prices and the threat of terrorism are not bad enough, now the airline industry has to contend with a new solution from Telstra that will mean less flying and more sitting around in conference rooms.

The telco today announced the commercial availability of a first end-to-end Telstra / Cisco TelePresence Managed Service solution ? a ?one-click' in-person collaboration experience delivered over the Australia-wide Telstra Next IP network, according to the company.

Telstra says the Cisco TelePresence solution will give organisations an alternative to travelling long distances for meetings across Australia or overseas as it creates an environment for up to 6 people at each end utilising immersive, purpose built meeting rooms. This gives the experience of feeling you are sitting across the table from participants at other locations.

It can therefore, says Telstra, deliver significant benefits such as improved time management, cost savings and productivity gains, as well as help in reducing carbon emissions.

David Thodey, Group Managing Director, Telstra Enterprise and Government  said, "This new Telstra Cisco TelePresence solution will open up many possibilities as it allows real time and real life interaction between people in different locations potentially thousands of kilometres apart".
