Now only weeks out from the launch of Freeview which is nothing more than sham marketing campaign by the free to air TV networks in Australia including Nine, Seven, Ten and the ABC and SBS along with affiliate stations across Australia, consumers are going to be bombarded with the full might of the TV networks in an effort to convince them that they should racing out to buy a Freeview certified TV or set top box.
This is despite the fact that a Freeview certified anything is a complete waste of time and money and only serves to confuse the HD TV market.
But the TV stations want it because a Freeview certified anything will stop consumers from easily being able to skip through TV commercials when they record them to a storage device whether it be a media centre, set top box with a built in recorder or a device running an ICE TV electronic program guide.
In a letter sent to me last week by the CEO of Freeview Robin Parkes admits that Freeview is set to be rolled out in two stages. She has also claimed that Freeview is currently working through the legalities with most of the manufacturers, and have already executed 4 licenses"
However she has refused to name those licensees and of all the licensees that we have spoken to not one has said that they will have Freeview compliant devices by May 1 2009.
