Acer Sees The Light- And Its Blu!

According to digitimes.com, Acers upcoming launch of notebooks with Blu-ray disc (BD) optical drives will top the 22 million mark in 2008, with large-size BD notebooks and low-cost notebooks both regarded as focuses for the company.

Industry sources claim global notebook shipments are expected to grow by 30 per cent per year to surpass 130 million, with BD notebooks to account for some 10 per cent of the the total.

Acer saidthat it expects to ship 40,000 18.4-inch BD notebooks and 70,000 16-inch BD notebooks in April. Industry watchers regard the proposed shipment amounts as indicators that Acer is confident over its BD notebook deployment.
